About VOW
The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) is a feminist peace organization with chapters across Canada. Our mandate is to provide a means for women to exercise responsibility for the promotion of world peace and justice, through education of themselves and others to take an equal part in the democratic process of decision making; and to cooperate with women throughout the world to create the mutual respect and understanding necessary for the peaceful resolution of international conflict. VOW has worked diligently for over half a century, playing a crucial role in opening up political space for Canadian women.
2017 Ontario Peace Leadership Camp for Young Women
Since 2012, VOW has held leadership training summer camps across the country. The purpose is to engage, inspire and educate young women to become active leaders in peace making. VOW works to empower young women in the pursuit of women-centered peace-building efforts through the incorporation of a critical feminist framework. During our camps we run experiential workshops to develop peace building skills and opportunities to familiarize the attendees with current events around the world and at home.
This year our Ontario Peace Leadership Camp is from August 18, 2017-August 20, 2017 in Hockley Valley, Ontario (near Orangeville).
Sign up for a unique experience that includes campfires, sing-alongs, great food, laughter, and an opportunity to make a difference in the world.
Camp Highlights
1. The essential role of women’s voices in peace making and peacekeeping
2. The need to include women in decision-making at all levels of government, including national and international peace negotiations
3. The importance of including a feminist analysis, especially with respect to developing an understanding of peace and conflict through making links to personal lived experiences
4. The importance of community and networking, which builds capacity, provides mutual support, and encourages diversity within the peace movement
How Can You Help?
We strive to make the camps accessible for young women by eliminating financial barriers. Your generous donation will make attending the camp possible for many young women – the leaders of tomorrow.
