Calixta Gabriel, Maya Priestess support for eyes surgery

Calixta Gabriel Xiquinis a woman of Maya ethnicity from the Kakchiquel group, dedicated to serve as a guide in Maya Cosmovision and medicine, helping communities and people in the Guatemalan highlands, and promoting the lifestyle and spiritual practices from her people in western society. Today Calixta is threatened by a desease which would leave her with no sight, unless she has the opportunity of a medical laser surgery for her eyes.

She was born 63 years ago in San Jose Poaquil, victim of the internal conflict, she lost her most close family due to the violence during those days. She studied for social worker and almost at the same time she begun her path in Maya cosmogony, having being involved in the Maya spiritual practices and guidance for the past thirty years. She has traveled to foreign countries as speaker and representative of her culture and for spiritual guidance.

In consequence of a chronic diabetes which has been punishing her for more than twenty years, and the sequels of an encephalic trauma during an attempt of femicide some years ago. Calixta is suffering "Diabetic Retinopahty and Macular Edema", a sickness which is increasingly leaving her uncapable of seeing anything, but which could be stopped and reverted with the proper laser surgery, which would give Calixta the chance to completely see again and help the people and communities which need her.

Her treatment is being assisted by the Benemerito Comité Pro Sordos y Ciegos de Guatemala. She has already covered personally and with a little help from friends, some preliminary expenses and pre surgery exams and medicine treatments.
