Jamie is 9 years old and is severely visually impaired. He has no vision and no light perception. Jamie currently uses a Perkins brailler, which is great but not very portable nor very technical. A Mountbatten brailler has so many more benefits: portable connects via bluetooth to his Ipad speaks as he types can use any paper (not card) automatic formatting to help centre text internal memory to store files light touch keyboard (perkins requires quite a bit of pressure) USB connection to PC plug in QWERTY keyboard weighs 10b (about ten times lighter than a Perkins) you can correct and erase on a Mountbatten This will help Jamie to produce homework easier, it will allow us to download information to send into school, it will enable Jamie to connect to his laptop and ipad to produce information, it will also mean we can take this away with us when visiting family or on holiday so he can use it. All in all, it will make life easier for Jamie. Think of the Perkins as an old fashioned desk top computer and the Mountbatten as a very light laptop. However, the mountbatten costs £2000. This is money we don't have so I am asking family, friends and their colleagues to help us give Jamie some independence.
