Buy a home at 50

Both me and my husband are 50 years old and still barely getting by renting a home. I have been unable to work now for almost two years because of health issues. I have applied for disability back in November 2013. My goal is to be paying for our own home instead of renting from someone else. This way the payments will be much lower for us. In order to achieve this we need help with a large down payment to get us going. Our credit scores are in low 500's. Not because of bad purchasesm but because we don't have credit cards so we don't have credit history. Plus we do have medical bills that we cannot afford to pay. Being out of the renting rat race would be so rewarding. I really want this for my husband so he doesn't have to work so many endless hours just to get by.   I want to send out great big Thank You's to all who can help. Many Thanks
