£142.00raised of £500.00 goal goal
HEY HO FRIENDS!!! As some of you know, in February I will be travelling to Northern Sumatra to begin volunteering for a charitable trust working to enhance the education and employability of the local community in the tourist village Bukit Lawang. Located next to the village is the Leuser Ecosystem, the last place on Earth to find Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos and Orangutans living together in the wild. The trust believes poverty reduction greatly improves conservation efforts and their chances of success. They work to reduce poverty in and around Bukit Lawang, and in doing so give young people the opportunity to not only survive but thrive in a sustainable lifestyle.
I will be based within the Education programme and working on expanding an ongoing project Days For Girls, which promotes the empowerment of marginalised and impoverished women through training and education. This project includes awareness raising and educational sessions on key topics such as the Menstrual Cycle, Feminine Hygiene, basic anatomy and sexual health, FGM and more. This programme is absolutely vital as not only does it drastically improve the lives, choices and health of local women, but it will also offer more sustainable sanitary resources.
I am creating this fundraiser for the next two months to contribute towards my required donation of £500 for the trust which allows them to fund this programme and provide supplies, it is a non profit organisation consisting of unpaid volunteers (I am covering my own travel, visa, etc.) and can only make a difference with the help of donations. Any amount will contribute whether it’s £1 or £50 every penny you have to give is much appreciated!! Thank you all for taking the time to have a read of this, peace n love xxxx
