On August 26th, 2023, the second annual static Dhol Tasha event will take place in Brno in cooperation with the Berlin-Indian music group RAMANBAUG YUVA MANCH, an offshoot of an Indian charity organization from Pune, the capital of culture of the state of Maharashtra in India. The ensemble will travel to Brno from Germany for this special event. The troop strives to introduce and popularize musical instruments of Marathi folk music. The ensemble performed at several events in Europe, most notably for the Ganesha procession during the Ganesha Festival in the same style as the one held annually in Pune, India. You can watch the celebration from Berlin here:
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most vividly celebrated festival in India, especially in Maharashtra. At the end of this 10 days festival, the idols are carried to the local rivers in huge processions accompanied by drums, devotional singing and dancing. This Dhol-Tasha is generally used during the performances for Ganesh Festival in India.
Briefly this amazing musical performance will take place in Brno where you can experience the actual musical atmosphere of Marathi traditional Dhol (drums) without any additional sound system. Though a bit later than Ganesh Chaturthi, lets still enjoy the show and shout out Ganpati Bappa Moraya!
Here you can watch a glimpse of how it is celebrated in Pune, India:
