Campaign Story
Life Motto: If you can help make a change in a life, do what it takes and give it your all.
We went to Mauritius on holiday and one morning early on the beach I spotted a tiny puppy cuddling up to a sleeping man. I thought this was the cutest thing I ever did see! Until the drunken man woke up, realised a stray puppy was sleeping next to him, threw the puppy across the beach and left. Horrified bystanders just watched this ordeal and no-one said anything to this man. Being an animal lover, I headed over to see if the puppy was okay. I lay my towel down on the floor and this little thing just ran to sit on it. So in that moment, I picked him up and walked 45 minutes to find an animal clinic in a strange country where hardly anyone spoke english.
Long story short, I got this puppy the shots he needed and got him treated for ticks and fleas. But I still had the dog and nowhere to home him. I met an amazing local man that used his connections and helped me book this puppy into an animal sanctuary but they only opened the following day, so my boyfriend and I snuck this little feller into the hotel with us and gave him a home for the night. We fed him, washed him, and most of all bonded. Handing him over to the sanctuary the next day was an extremely hard thing not knowing if he will survive being so dehydrated, starved and young. But he flourished. He knew he was finally okay.
He is still at the sanctuary but we have been advised that when a dog is re-homed in Mauritius, they most likely land up tied to a tree outside or get abandoned once again. There is a stray dog epidemic there that is so hard to see. This is something we cannot allow to happen to him again.
So we enquired about bringing this dog to South Africa so we can give him a loving home. The process costs around R22 000/ 54 000 Mauritian Rupees. This amount includes the blood tests he needs to have before he can come into the country, the crate, the plane ticket, fees and any other requirements. We would love to bring this little guy home to join our pack, but we need a bit of help reaching this amount and any help will be greatly appreciated!
We have 2 months to get to this amount so that once he is 3 months old he can be flown over to his new home. Any longer than that just prolongs the process and means he lives in an overcrowded area for that much longer. We really want to try make a difference in his life.
If we do not reach our goal, we will donate the money raised to the All Life Matters sanctuary so they can raise him comfortably as well as the other animals in the sanctuary. Thank you!
