Brazil/Amazon Mission Trip

Recently, I have felt called to go on a mission trip that has been offered through my church, The Village Chapel (TVC). During the week of March 10-18, 2016, I will be traveling with a mission team from TVC in Nashville, Tennessee to villages along The Amazon River in Brazil.

We will be serving with an organization called Justice and Mercy Amazon (www.justiceandmercyamazon.org). JMA exists to release worship to the poor by educating, equipping, encouraging and caring for the forgotten people of the Amazon. JMA seeks to make justice personal by building schools, educating jungle pastors in God’s word, caring for children with special needs, and offering emergency food and medical assistance to the people who live along the Amazon’s endless banks.

Our team will be living on a small boat called “The Discovery.” (Sleeping in hammocks!) We will return to multiple villages along the Amazon that were served by last year’s team. It is TVC’s and JMA’s goal that we build long-term, ongoing relationships with these pastors and their communities. A couple of years ago, the team that went was deeply moved by the stories they heard of the devastating floods that happen annually, which often displace families and churches for months of the year. The following year, another team went back to raise one pastor’s home to a level that is above the flooding so that he can stay in his home and serve his community throughout the flooding season. This year, in each village we will do home visits, school visits, have activities/crafts with the children, give our testimonies, participate in/lead worship services, etc. Overall, we just want to let these often unreached communities know how much they are loved and matter to the good and gracious God who created them. We want to love these people just how He has loved us, and share with them our joy though Christ.

I invite you to pray for me and for the team from The Village Chapel as we go and serve. Of course, mission trips like these require resources, supplies, and expenses. The cost per team member will be $2700, with flights being the largest expense. I’m more than halfway there so far! Help me make it to my final goal?
