Bouvier Rescue SA – rescuing, rehabilitating and homing neglected, mistreated dogs in need

Bouvier des Flandres Rescue South Africa is in need of a small Sanctuary. We have the highest rate of Bouviers needing help than any other country world wide. One average we rescue 2-3 Bouviers a month. Being a breed specific NPO finding funding is extremely difficult. Most donations come in from Bouvier owners. This however is not enough to help every Bouvier that comes in for rescue. Sadly there are only 5 foster homes in the whole of South Africa.

We get in Bouviers who are in desperate need of rehabilitation and training. For this we need a small Sanctuary. This will allow us to assess each Bouvier thoroughly before rehoming. In the case of badly abused Bouviers the Sanctuary will give us time to rehabilitate them before rehoming can take place. Bouviers with no training will be trained in basic obedience before being rehomed making it much easier for the family adopting the dog and the Bouvier. Since January 2019 we have rescued 26 Bouviers, we are now in the end of June 2019. We need a sanctuary to rehabilitate abused dogs.

The cruelty of some people towards defenseless animals is beyond comprehension. Born out of sympathy and love, and grown from a purely volunteer organisation, we are now desperate for ongoing financial assistance to keep our doors open and rescue deserving, mistreated animals in dire need. Our hope for Bouvier Rescue SA to continue lies in a SANCTUARY and safe haven where we can help every Bouvier in need. Every one of these dogs deserve a second chance of love and life.

Our mission is to protect and serve the Bouviers des Flandres breed throughout South Africa, by the responsible and effective rescue of Bouviers. We do not simply park animals in cages. Our approach is a holistic one that includes ALL steps necessary from rescue to permanent placement in the correct home.

Every need of every dog is taken into account, from initial assessment through all medical necessities, socialisation and training to placement. This includes:

• Full health checks with Veterinarians including X-Rays
• Spay/Neuter
• All vaccinations
• Deworming
• Micro-chip
• Stool test
• Ear cleaning
• Dental cleaning
• Grooming
• Assessment and treatment by animal behaviourists
• Foster home placing with volunteers
• Transport
• Food
• Follow up veterinary care

All Bouviers handled by BRSA will only be placed in fully approved homes after sterilisation, full vaccination, deworming and micro-chipping and once the homes has been inspected and approved to assure a stable and happy home. A home visit will be done to establish suitability, and a follow up phase of at least 12 months will be monitored.

The effort and cost by our volunteers are enormous. We need monthly financial support to keep performing a desperately needed service. We are also praying for companies that will be sympathetic to our cause, sponsor our work and dream Sanctuary.
