Sensit: A Handmade Marketplace with a Purpose

For those of you who don't know my name is Hannah, and I am currently developing 'Sensit'- an online marketplace where anyone can find unique handmade items in a curated community of artisan sellers.

You may be thinking "WAIT- doesn't that already exist? Like as in Etsy, or Amazon handmade, or any of the other 'handmade' marketplace alternatives that are out there today...?"

The answer to your question is no. While there are a lot of handmade marketplaces out there to shop and sell on, Sensit will do a multitude of things differently and maybe even a little better. But before I jump into what will set Sensit apart from the rest, let me mention the most important detail: Sensit will not just sell handmade, but handmade with a purpose:

SO not only will you be able to visit Sensit to find beautiful, unique, handcrafted items (without having to guess if they're handmade or not... but we'll get to that in a moment), you can also give back to a multitude of communities in need- most of which will be close to a shop owner's heart since they will be the one picking the cause their sales will benefit. Why shop anywhere else when you can shop handmade at Sensit and give back all at once?

Why Sensit?

Expanding on the purpose above, Sensit will aim to value people first over our bottom line. This means that Sensit will value the communities in need, the shop owners that will sell on the platform and- of course- the customers who are on the site to find something special- all more than our efforts to make money.

For customers:

A curated marketplace: Through Sensit's application process and screening of shop owners, it will be able to present customers instantly with handmade items without leaving room to wonder if an item has been mass manufactured or truly handmade. If the website doesn't allow everyone and their brother to sell on Sensit there is a MUCH smaller chance of a non-handmade shop owner who works with mass manufactured and imported goods infiltrating the platform. It's unfair to customers who aren't getting what they paid for, and unfair competition to shop owners who put their heart and soul into their handmade goods and are forced to compete with mass-manufactured prices.

For Shop Owners

For shop owners Sensit will be able to provide 'no risk success': Shop owners will not pay a penny until a sale is made. Even then, commissions will be minimal (somewhere between 3-4% per sale), and of that a 1-2% percentage will go to a cause that has been researched and proven to be legitimate. This way, a shop owner can sign up and conduct business on our platform without risking a thing.

As a shop owner you will also benefit from our strict no cross-selling policy. You know: when a customer is supposed to be looking at your items and there's a 'similar item' section nearby that's full of items 'similar' to yours but at lower prices (which is probablyyyy a sign they've been mass manufactured)? Yeah, that's cross selling and the only thing Sensit will be crossing is its heart that it will never do that to you.

Lastly, when joining the community on Sensit you will be joining a community of like-minded individuals. Not only will you share in common the love and passion for creating one-of-a-kind goods by hand, but you will also share in common the empathy and love for supporting just causes and people in need. That is a kind of community that you will likely not be able to find anywhere else but on the Sensit marketplace.
