My name is Bongiwe Beja and a few years ago in wanting to give back I joined a programme to mentor Grade 11 students from Bulumko High School in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. This is how I met Ms Lelethu Koplani - the eldest daughter of 3 children who was being raised by a single mom. Lelethu exudes passion and there is a fire in her eyes to create a better future for her and her family. She told me back in 2010 that she loves her Sciences subjects and wants to be a qualified Physiotherapist one day.

It is now 2017 and Lelethu is a 4th year Bsc Physiotherapy Student at the Uuniversity of the Western Cape. She has been informed that she owes the university an amount of R2599,56 and without settling this amount her marks will not be released nor will she be able to graduate.

She informed me of this and whilst as her mentor I don't have the funds to assist I thought to reach out to 10 friends who could each donate just R300 - this would help Lelethu achieve her dream and nothing would make me more proud than to see her see this goal through as it has NOT been an easy ride. I respect our relationship and won't divulge personal details but I will say this is a special girl who has fought to keep her dream alive against all odds. She is my hero.

Please help. Lelethu has hopes of supporting her family this coming year and changing the status quo of her life and her loved ones through this qualification. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Update posted by Bongiwe Beja at 03:36 pm

I had the pleasure of being with Lelethu yesterday. I met on campus at UWC and we went to the admin building to pay her fees, the physio department, the physio faculty, the financial aid office and I am happy to share that her dream will come true. She will. . . . .
