Delighted, and relieved, to say we received the essential PASS certification (on the Rabies Titer Test) from the UK test centre in May, which meant Biscuit was officially allowed to enter Europe!! This system/piece of paper bypasses the old quarantine process, so in effect he could walk off the plane in Europe.
So, it was on to the next step.... booking flights!
A new law was passed in April in the UK that dogs were not allowed to fly into the UK as excess baggage, only as (the more expensive) cargo. This only applies to the UK, the rest of Europe happily still accepts dogs as excess baggage.
So, I decided to take advantage of that and fly into Amsterdam instead, where I have friends.
Flights all booked through Aeroflot, an amazingly helpful Russian airline, so we're going via Moscow! Their excess baggage charge for a dog in the hold is only $75, vs cargo flight into UK of potentially £450. No brainer. "Animal in the hold" confirmed and flight booked out of Delhi for the 12th July.
My plan is for us to stay in Amsterdam for a few weeks, then drive to the UK via the Eurotunnel, who allows dogs in the car no problem - nice loophole there.
Whilst I've been enjoying my time back on the beach in Goa, my human, jess Holliday, has been arranging safe passage of my blood sample to the UK. A process of testing that means I bypass the quarantine process when I hit the EU. Involves 5,000 roops cost, blood test, courier and some patient processing time. Stage 1: blood test - complete. Stage 2: plasmas separated - complete. stage 3: finding a courier to get the blood work back to the EU - complete. Stage 4: blood sample to be submitted to UK testing clinic - in progress. Stage 5: processing. Stage 6: results expected in May/June.
This is the BIGGY people, this will ultimately decides if I can fly to the EU or not... fingers and paws crossed we'll know more in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, why not spread the word about my journey?! I've still got to raise just over £1000 to make everything possible with minimal financial stress and smooth all things out for my human, jess, who's just had to lay out 19,000 roops on a IATA crate for me.
Love light and licks for any and all promotion you can do that convert into £££. Mr Biscuits xx
It's been a while: I've been run off my paws for the last two weeks, studying and practicing hard and I'm half way through my 200 hours Doga Teacher Training here at Kranti Doga in Patnem. I'm loving hanging out with all the beautiful (and very tolerant) Yogis in the Shala, learning that nipping people's heels doesn't get me love, playing with all my doggy mates on the beach, digging for crabs and barking at the sunset, generally growing up in every way and enjoying myself A LOT.
Aptly, I'm also half way to achieving my £2,500 target! 😀Please share, or donate what you can to #fillthebiscuitjar.
Dogmin wise, I'm due to have my 2nd round of injections and microchip this week, then it's a months wait until I can have my blood test... step by step.
started my yoga teacher training today! Nailing downward facing dog (Adha Murkha Svanasana) and Savasana (blissful lie down). Internal struggles with my cat/cow, but zen'ing through it! Thanks for all your support, I've hit 48%!!! Please continue to share and follow my journey on instagram @thetailofmrbiscuits and twitter @mrbiscuitstail! Namaste
