After 25 years working for the Daily Dispatch in East London I relocated to Cape Town as my husband took up an employment offer here. In the changing face of our new democracy jobs are not easily available and after eventually finding one I was later retrenched and it was back to job hunting. A friend suggested staring up a free mini magazine for the northern suburbs of Cape Town. So we took the bull by the horns and did it, but it has been baby steps and the tight economic climate has not helped. After five months we have managed to cover our printing costs (barely) but the tiny nest egg is now completely depleted and with not enough surety, loans are not easy to come by if you are one salary family and that salary does not cover living expenses.

I passionately believe in our product and believe with the assistance towards covering our costs we can then focus on marketing this further so that it can achieve the potential I believe it has.

It is a magazine offering excellent colour advertising rates for the small business owner but most importantly we offer community event news in a monthly calendar of events including markets and sport and this feature is for free. We have a community page in which we highlight a local non-profit organisation and what their needs are. All in a size that slips into a handbag or brief case.

We hope to increase our pages and footprint to make this small sized magazine a community magazine with a large heart! We want to share more community news, initiatives to support and the stories of the people who reside in this area.

We want it to grow into a vehicle that will help emerging and small business owners so that they can experience success. We want to be seen as a vehicle to promote community fundraisers and initiatives. We eventually want it to grow so that we can offer employment to others in a country which has such a high unemployment rate.

We want it to be eventually delivered to every home in the northern suburbs. We want it to make a difference in the lives of our readers and advertisers.

So what we need to give us a boost is enough funding to pay for two print editions and enable us to launch a website. This will help us to increase our print run and help initiate some community drives.
