Campaign Story
My husband Wayne is a USMC veteran who proudly served his country during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He was deployed to Kuwait with his unit, Hotel-3/12 (3rd battalion, 12th Marines) attached to the 3rd battalion,10th Marines as a motor transport operator hauling ammunition and artillery. During his deployment, he was exposed to environmental hazards including burning oil wells and possible Sarin Gas and Cyclosarin as well as many others when the Ammunition Storage Facility in Khamisiyahs was destroyed in March of 1991. He was also given a cocktail of untested and experimental vaccines even though the long term side effects of those vaccines were not known.
Once Wayne returned home, he began experiencing muscle and joint pain, fatigue and headaches. He has trouble concentrating and memory loss. Four years ago he got a particulary nasty headache that has never gone away. This headache was accomanyied by his right eye drooping and the pupil in that eye becoming quite small. Our local hospital ruled out stroke, tumor, aneurisym, and glaucoma. The headache is now somewhat tolerable (or he's just learned to live with it) most days but he still has flares 2-3 times per week.
For the last 3 1/2 years Wayne has been seeing Neurlogists at the VA medical center. He's been to three differnt neorologists, all with different opinions on what is causing the headache but none will do more in depth testing. They've all just prescribed different pain killers in the hopes that one would work. When we specifically asked for a Functional MRI we were told that even if they found the cause of the headache, they would not change their current course of treatment (more pills) so there was no sense in having it done.
After his last neurology appointment, we are beyond frustrated with our local VA. They refuse to do the diagnostic testing needed and will only continue to prescribe pill after pill after pill and hope that one works. We have decided to try and raise enough money to send Wayne to either Mercy Health Hauenstein Neurosciences in Grand Rapids, Mi. or the War Related Illness and Injury Center in New Jersey.
Our goal is $2500.00 and we think that will give us a good start with getting into Hauenstein or WRIIC and getting the testing he needs. We have enabled over-funding and any addtional funds will go towards additional medical bills, travel and lost wages. Every dollar helps every donation will be greatly appreciated.

Wayne leaves April 6th for New Jersey and will be out there until April 10th. We are very hopeful that they will find a cause for his headache and can find something to successfully treat
War Related Illness & Injury Center
Update posted by Michele Benson at 10:20 amFinally! It seems as though we've finally been able to get a doctor to listen to us. Wayne had an appointment with a new Primary Care Provider yesterday and we went over all of our concerns and requested a referral to the War Related Injury and Illness Center in New. . . . .

Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and He will give you all you need ... If you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern, So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring it's own worries, Today's trouble is enough for today. ~Matthew 6:32B-34
