Who needs funding
*Kate needs legal funding fast. She is escaping domestic violence, and free legal aide has "prepared her" to "represent herself" in a court custody case where her Ex is seeking full custody. The Ex has paid for an attorney, and has sworn to do everything he can to win. Again, she does not currently have legal representation for court. She needs a lawyer in order to level the playing field and have a fair shot.
Why she needs funding
She has more than one child, including a child with a disability at home and has not been able to find full-time work that would allow her to provide care AND keep up with the demands of a this job. She has social security and unreliable child support payments. She doesn't have rich family and few friends due to them being afraid of her Ex, who has been physically violent.
Legal help found and money requested
With an $800 retainer, she can secure a low cost attorney who will work for $60 hourly, but with an anticipated minimum 4 month court ordeal (a hearing scheduled weeks from now and a court date this fall, along with any future appeals), the anticipated minimum cost is around $4000.
The plea
Please help this brave woman as she fights to keep the only thing in her life that keeps her "breathing, living, and searching for happiness" : her children. Even through it all, she is willing to work with the courts to find a fair parenting plan so that he can still spend quality time with his children. She just wants a fair chance to continue being their primary caregiver and to be allowed to raise them in safety and security, in a loving home--free from abuse.

He is still ignoring the mutual restraining order (calls, texts, emails from different accounts and numbers) with absolutely no. . . . .

UPDATE: Kate has been to court, where they worked out a visitation agreement, one where Kate can use a 3rd party to drop off the children and pick up the children. He is still ignoring the mutual restraining order (calls, texts, emails from different accounts and numbers) with absolutely no consequences to him, and is now using the police to check up on her--saying that she has "known criminals" in her home with their children and that he is worried about their safety. He might now get into hot water (making false police reports) for sending them over to her house a couple nights ago, waking everyone up around midnight (she was ALONE with the children--nope--no criminals here!!!). She is working on stress control techniques and is enjoying every minute she can with her children before the school year starts up again. She thanks everyone who has given funding so far or has written notes of encouragement. She is truly grateful for the kindness.
