Campaign Story
An Ultra Sound machine will greatly improve patient care in Jasper.
Having such specialized equipment would help medical staff assess injuries more accurately and efficiently, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
In Jasper, an isolated rural community in Alberta's Rocky Mountains, we can give patients better outcomes if medical staff have the best available tools to determine whether the emergency can be treated on site or if it requires more attention in a specialized facility, such as the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
An ultrasound can help with this triaging. Currently, if an individual is admitted to the hospital with blunt abdominal trauma, for example, doctors must perform a clinical observation, which cannot deliver as accurate results as that of an ultrasound machine. And ultrasound machine can determine if a patient has internal bleeding so medical staff can triage accordingly.
An ultrasound machine has a multitude of uses. The machine could be used to help assess musculoskeletal injuries, congestive heart failure, septic shock, abscesses, aortic aneurysms, kidney stones, threatened abortion, appendicitis and fracture reductions.
With millions of visitors coming to Jasper each year, a high preponderance of outdoor activities being performed in the mountains, and our proximity to the Trans Canada Highway #16, this machine would greatly improve medical staff's ability to perform at their best. This machine will help everyone. Please consider donating.
