Save the Bacchus!

On Monday, July 14th, I found a small lump on Bacchus's underside. The following Wednesday Bacchus went to the vet for a cytology. After looking at the cells the vet feels it's cancerous, and Bacchus most likely has breast cancer. To check and see if it had spread we did a chest x-ray. The results were inconclusive (two small spots could be seen in one view, but not another, meaning we could be looking at the external mass and not necessarily anything in his lungs) so now he needs to go to the specialist for an ultrasound and possibly a cat scan. If those come back clear, then we will move forward with surgery to remove the small masses. If he does have a mass in his lungs, we won't operate as open chest surgery on a 13 year old cat can be very traumatic.   I adopted Bacchus from a shelter in Florida 5 years ago. He was sent to the shelter because his former family had a new baby and being the jealous bitchy queen of a cat that he is, he decided to start peeing on their stuff! Instead of working on training him and showing him more attention, they surrendered him to a shelter. Fortunately my friend Melanie spotted him there and said, "that's one weird and affectionate cat! My friend Wendy needs him!" It was true! I did! So his royal curly butt came to live with me :) We worked on his peeing issues, and moved to an apartment without carpet ;), and gave him lots of love and affection (and diagnosed and treated his allergies!), and after a few weeks of awkwardness, he became a happy loving prissy boy!  Bacchus is a very special grumpy cat, and the thought of losing him prematurely has me crying while I type this. I am going to get a short term loan from a friend so I can get him into the specialist as soon as possible, but after the initial $600 appointment we already had, I need any help I can get fielding these medical bills! I cancelled a planned trip and the good people at Southwest have been kind enough to refund my non-refundable tickets to put towards his bills, but it's simly not enough.
