Major Relief Pours In to Save Mom's House

Update posted by SCOTT WESSELS

It's been two weeks since 4' of water stormed into Mom's home and wiped out 95% of everything. And today my parents, and my entire family, are amazed by how much support has come in from friends and family like yourself through your monetary donations and hard work around the house. Thank YOU again.

Donations today total $9000, and as you can expect every penny of it is needed to restock the house once it's ready for move-in. Todd Wright the President of Fidus Construction has come through like a champ with his crew and vendors to demo and save the house. An electrician had the power back on as of yesterday and now the home is in the 'dry out' phase as fans and dehumidifiers do their thing, we expect the home will be completely dry by next week.

In the meantime, Mom and Bennie are just down the street living in a vacant house that a friend of hers kindly opened up to them. And they are not alone. Another neighbor and victim of the flood water, an 89 year old elderly couple who had 2' of water in their home is living in the house too while their family rushes to repair their home.

November timeline for next steps on the house:

  • Hang new sheetrock week of the 5th
  • Install counter tops and kitchen cabinets the week of the 12th
  • Paint the week of the 19th

It's astonishing to say that they may move back in the house by the end of Nov/early Dec, and thanks to all of YOU, that just may be the case. We certainly have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season coming up. This has been an eye-opening experience and we cannot thank you again for having our back during this tough time and you can be sure we'll pay it forward.

Best regards,

Scott Wessels
