Keeping faith

Update posted by Siena Elise Cristobal

I have faith that we’ll get through Mama’s Leukemia. I have faith that we’ll get through the remaining 3 cycles. I have faith that we’ll get our lives back. I have faith that we’ll come out victorious.

But what brings me down is how the government provides for the needy. For years we have been productive citizens of the country and yet in our time of need we were treated like beggars.

I’ve endured multiple early morning preparations for half a day of waiting or to be sent home. I’ve endured heat, hunger and multiple trips to DSWD and PCSO for financial aids. We’ve worked on every requirements SSS, DSWD and PSCO asks for. It was extremely tedious, time consuming, and exhausting.

All of this to help extend my Mama’s life. All of this hard work because it’s just the two of us.

Today was just too much for me, we’ve begged to have this appointment earlier to be able to use the financial aid for Mama’s 2nd cycle but they kept telling us to “return again tomorrow, earlier” despite being there before 5 or 6am. And now that’s it’s the actual day of my appointment, I arrived as early as I can (at 4am) I was sent home after standing in line for 2 hours and was told to “return again tomorrow earlier”. Just as everyone else in the line this morning, we’re all fighting for our lives and the life of someone we hold dear.

I cannot stress enough how this experience is too much for me. Having my father absent in our lives and the feeling of having all this for me to carry alone, there’s only too much I can bear.

We are already in Mama’s 3rd Chemo cycle. We only got this far because of all the help the people around us has graciously donated and helped out. But our funds are depleting and we are still in need for 3 more cycles and a bone marrow scan at the end of all the treatment.

Sincerely we are forever grateful to our cheerful givers who got us this far in this process. Because of them, we have seen how God moves and shows His love and faithfulness to us. To family, friends, and even strangers who extends their prayers and encouragements, they help us focus our eyes on God and stand firm on His promises as our great healer, provider, friend, and creator.

Truly it is only through God’s work that we are able to survive on a daily basis, and for me to have the opportunity to take care of my Mama full time, to be by her side every step of her recovery.

Please if you can spare any amount to help us, it would mean the world to us.

Thank you and please keep us in your prayers.
