New Housing, Refugees in Camps and Housed Refugees

Update posted by Andrea Oterová

Refugees in camps:

Our team is supporting refugees in camps by helping them look for accommodation through different sources and spending time with them, supporting them with necessities, doctors' visits, some have bought metro cards for them. It is all aimed at making their conditions at least a bit more bearable in the camps while we look for housing.

The main updates in regards to these are:

NEW HOUSING:

We were very lucky to find housing for Wasan and Alaa and Rahaf and family (family with four children) are moving to their new home this Wednesday (we found housing for them through Fluchtlinge Willkommen), for details check the update New Housing please.

Michael and Maria got in touch with us offering their home to Wasan and Alaa with their son Fahed. They have already raised 800 EUR for their necessities and we also support them with necessities, clothes and metro tickets.

Refugees in camps:

Dania and Bashir, who are supported by Courtney, our team member, have gotten a flat with Diakonie. We are very happy about this because Dania's asthma was making her stay at the camp extremely difficult. Her husband Bashir was also sick all the time in the camp. We are collecting donations for their new home (we will post an updated list soon) and Courtney is planning to buy them metro cards.

Shafik is still looking for housing, we have put him in touch with some people who might be able to rent a place with him, they are still looking for options. If they will need guarantee we will support them.

We are supporting Doaa and Ahmed at Lindengasse. She is feeling very sick from the pregnancy and our team member Ivana took an air bed for her to sleep better. She also buys them fruits regularly. They are being transferred to Primavesigasse, we will keep looking for housing for them and help them with necessities. They are also starting a German course.

Maitham and his family of five have been in touch with us, we got them metro tickets, our volunteers are providing them with German speaking tutors to assist the children with their homework (they are enrolled at school), we area looking for a kindergarten for their smallest child Ritaj. We provide them with necessities and keep looking for housing for them.

Somayeh ( a pregnant lady with her son staying at LIndengasse camp) has been given a airbed and Monica, our team member is supporting her with necessities and doctors' visits. We are looking into an option of moving Somayeh into a better shelter, a house run by Caritas, while we look for a home for them, we hope that it works out!

Many of the refugees have been transferred to camps out of Vienna so we are in a rush to find them a place before the Vordere camp closes, which might be this May.
