Campaign Story
We are eleven black South African theatre students which are in their final year of studies at the University of Cape Town. We have devised a production based on the Bullhoek massacre which occurred in Southern Africa in 1921 during the Apartheid regime. This production is to exhume the stories of the past, and of those affected by the massacre. Giving them a voice in contemporary South Africa but also allowing Africans in a whole to reclaim those that are taken from them by colonization, we are asking for the reclamation of our land, our history, and our languages. We have been accepted to perform this piece at the National Arts Festival in Makhanda in June, and we would like to ask for financial assistance in getting there. We hope to also have the funds available by mid-May so that we may book for accommodation, technical equipment, performance space, travel, and daily meals.
