Agritourism project

The mountain region of Gorski Kotar is located in the hinterland of the Adriatic Sea and the city of Rijeka in Croatia.

This region is colloquially called the Green Heart of Croatia because it is rich in deciduous and coniferous forests, unpolluted agricultural land and clean mountain air. Although I live in one of the most beautiful parts of Croatia, unfortunately the majority of the population thinks about how to leave for somewhere where they could live a better life and earn more. This is contrary to my vision of actively working and gradually developing an agritourism project on a family farm in a small town Sunger where I live with my family in a small mountain valley surrounded by rich flora and fauna.

Through the development of agritourism, my intention is to offer tourists accommodation in a pleasant rural idyll where, among other things, various agricultural products are produced and where I have a small farm of laying hens . In order to survive in these harsh rural areas where we unfortunately have only small agricultural surfaces, we are forced to be engaged in several different activities so that in addition to the production of free-range hen eggs, we also produce red, white and blue potatoes.

In the meantime, I started the construction of a holiday home in which I have so far invested 1/3 of my own funds for the preparation of project documentation, excavation of land and concreting of foundations and a slab.

To finish a complete holiday home and to register agritourism as a third economic activity, I lack another 30.000 euros, which I first sought from Croatian banks, which in the meantime tightened or stopped lending to businesses, especially to us small businesses, so that getting a loan became an impossible mission.

It's hard for me to admit, but this plan of my economic development in the direction of agritourism encountered a number of unexpected difficulties during Covid-19 that I didn't think about before at all. This is currently true of the majority of the small entrepreneurs in the world who have found themselves in an unenviable situation overnight and who hold on to any lifeline no matter what it is and where it comes from. Hence, I decided to seek funding through this campaign called Agritourism.

I will send a thank you note to all donors who pay at least 5 euros, to those who pay 20 euros, I will send a gift package of 100g of blue potato chips. Donors who pay 50 euros will be sent a package of homemade pasta weighing a total of 3 kg produced from free-range chicken eggs. For larger donors who decide to pay 150 euros, I will issue a gift voucher for an overnight stay in my future holiday home that will be able to accommodate a maximum of 6 guests.

If individual donors decide to donate a much larger amount than the proposed minimum amount, we will provide them with a voucher for several nights in the same equivalent of the amount paid. If such donors may not be able to use their holiday voucher at my holiday home on their own, we suggest that they give away this future possibility to their close relatives, friends or business partners. They only need to inform us about that in time.

Finally, we would like to mention that our geographical position is attractive and interesting for spending the holidays in my future holiday home that will be in harmony with the indigenous wooden architecture, and which is located, believe it or not, at a distance of only 30 minute drive from the Adriatic Sea. The capital of Croatia is only a 90-minute drive away. This is our comparative advantage because every day during the summer, for example, you can go swimming in the Adriatic Sea and spend the night in your holiday home in one of the most beautiful mountain regions in Europe.

In addition, the Gorski Kotar region has a rich cultural and natural heritage and to get to know this beautiful part of Croatia in its entirety you would have to come for many years.
