Hello, my name is Jessica Rodriguez and ever since eighth grade I had a boiling passion for history, especially European history. The major event in European history that has always held my attention was the Holocaust. When I first learned about it in eighth grade, I was in shock that something so horrible actually happened. Back then it was only the basic knowledge any eight grade student was given. But as I got older the Holocaust has always remained a huge interest. The idea that one man could cause so much hate and pain had me constantly thinking about how and why something like the Holocaust took place. I was determined to learn all I could about the tragic event so that I could fully understand why and how it happened.

In 2015 I was a senior in high school and I had the opportunity to take the Holocaust and Human Behavior course. This class went in to more detail than any eighth grade history class would. I had the chance to learn and analyze, aspects of the Holocaust most people over look. Such as the human behavior. Why did these people take part in such a horrific act? Why did no one stop and think about what was actually happening? Throughout the course we watched documentaries and listened to testimonies from survivors. But my learning did not stop in the classroom. I was one of a few fellow classmates to be chosen to go to Poland to further my knowledge on the Holocaust and experience this learning opportunity.

Now a sophomore in college, at Delaware Valley University, I have been given another opportunity to further my education on European history and take part in a study abroad trip to Berlin, Germany. Learning about any subject in the classroom is intriguing when passionate about the topic, but when learning is brought outside of the classroom and in front of your own eyes it’s a whole different experience. Being in person at a concentration camp or a museum leaves more of an impact on my educational career than sitting in a classroom reading and watching videos about the same location.

Which brings me to why I am writing you this. I am asking for donations of any amount to help raise money to make this trip to Berlin, Germany possible. All of the money raised will be used for air transportation, airport transfers, housing while in Berlin, transportation within Germany, guided walking tours, admission to museums, concerts and historic sights, along with lunches and dinners.

Thank you for supporting and donanting!
