Beloved Dog hit by car

Update posted by Charun On Mar 06, 2013

Today's news is good and very happy but still critical with lots of work to be done. Loki has had her right lung re-inflate enough to be stable and come home for some down time. She needs to recover as much as she can before we bring her into surgery. She still has the bullas and to insure her recovery we need to have them removed and dealt with. We have to watch her very carefully to ensure we can get her in immediately if her lung decides to collapse again At that point we would be going straight into surgery which would not be optimum at this point. The more she heals up to a condition of a normal dog the more successful the surgery will be with less risk from factors like anesthesia etc.

We are plumping the blankets and getting her kennel all cozied up and her favorite sheep and bee stuffies are waiting for her. Some nice wet food just to spoil her and lots of love to keep her calm and settled. She will not be able to play or run jump for the next while so we have to make her happy in her kennel and on the bed laying down nicely (Shes so crazy active there is no other choice, you will understand when you meet her :) ). I'm so excited to have her back, but must strive forward to get to the next step.

We are in the midst of trying to gain media attention to tell our full story. We are trying to contact radios, newspapers, newscasts, or magazines, blogs, websites etc. We hope someone will have the kindness to assist us and make the world see what is going on, so we can also show how and give credit to the amazing community of people that have opened their hearts to us in our greatest time of need. This has been an eyeopener that has brought tears to my eyes over and over again. My heart feels overwhelmed by the support we have received and the continuing support we are receiving.

Please also be aware we are in the process of planning fundraisers in the future as well. I will be posting more information as we go along, We will need volunteers for those that are interested and want to make it the best we can and make it fun for we can for everyone involved. I want this to be celebration for those that are helping us as well as aiding Loki.

We want to begin getting the word out for this particular need for help and want to start a group/foundation built specifically for people that end up in that horrible situation of facing the brutal fact you may not get your pet in for help when the need it.

If you have any ideas or suggestions of how to reach our goals in getting our beloved better, Please feel free to post it on our facebook page. I believe in this and know that more minds means more perspectives.

Thank you everyone we will probably be posting more pictures then normal when we see her, but hey we are so happy things are moving forward and its onward to the final hump.

The lovely Shacara giving Loki a treat shes one hungry dog! Ryan and Loki hanging out she misses him a lot :). She was so excited to see us like a total different dog today it was an amazing burst of happiness to see that. But the real challenge is now ahead of us we know everything that needs to be done now and how much, the surgery details will be posted on our campaign site with individual costs. The amount for whats needed to make her better is a total between $6757.07 and $7183.95. This is a full on surgery that she needs to recover fully. Thanks to the hearts of others we now have $2500 to go towards it so we are well on our way. We are going to work hard and continue with hope to achieve the rest. We miss our happy girl and the vets are falling in love with her, we like the DR. Koreman a lot she's very informative and caring and always answers the questions we ask. She speaks fondly of Loki. She receives tons of love from the staff. We have a hard journey ahead but we will make it happen one way or the other

We just got back from visiting Loki at the vet, there is good and bad news, she is at about a 50/50 right now. We got the x-rays redone and it shows progress, the left lung it is expanding normally now and less air is entering her chest, however her right side has blood in the lung cavity. They have told us that if she can pull through the next 48 hours her body will heal it on its own and it will be ok. The other potential issue is a possible air between the sac and the heart, but this is an issue, if it is an issue that can be fixed and healed.. So really its all about hope and time now in regard to her survival, the chest bleeding cannot persist. send us your positive energies and all your love to our little girl. The vet is keeping her very comfortable and warm, she is cozied up in blankets and seems very contented in her warm area. She was so happy to see us that we had to get her to lye back down. We will have more news once the radiologist gets back to us on the x-ray diagnosis.

Just got off phone with the Vet she is stable and air is still leaking into her chest, its safe to say she will need to undergo the surgery to put a chest tub into to keep pressure from building pressure. The bleeding in her stomach has subsided for now and she was able to pee so her bladder is intact. We will find out tomorrow morning will she be going to undergo the procedure if we are able to get help through the clinics finances we will keep her there if not she will go to her regular vet in Richmond who will let us pay in installments, either way we will get our girl looked after, thank you to those that have helped us so far its more then appreciated, we will keep you updated as we go along. Much love Charun

Doug Short was kind enough to cover Loki's costs for the evening in the Langley animal hospital, we cannot thank him enough, now we can transfer her to the proper clinic tomorow where she will be taken care of without immediate money needed upfront, but it will be a surgery cost of 3000 to 5000 dollars. At least this way we have time to try to find help, instead of watching her die in front of us.

I am in tears moved by the help provided and cannot even find the words to express the right grattitude.

I would also again like to thank the couple that was able to loan us the money to get her in at the least, they are amazing caring people and approached us off the street and helped us without a secong thought. Kindness comes in many forms.
