In a further act of attempted intimidation, last evening a rock was thrown and it shattered the rear window of our cull car.
A dirty little white pickup was speeding down a country lane past where we were standing - looking at the amazing sunset over a gate, as it happens and all was well with the world - until we heard a sharp bang like a gunshot followed immediately by a spattering noise similar to shotgun pellets on metal but turned out to be fragments of toughened glass exploding into the vehicle.
The stone thrower must have taken a big chance: he was obviously out looking for us with a flint baseball in his hand, driving at 60mph down a lane and then leaning out to hurl his weapon. He was gone so quickly there is no dashcam evidence, save a blur. The incident has been reported to the Police, but as expected they hold out little hope.
It was fortunate that there was nobody in the vehicle as the glass fragments reached the dashboard and covered the seats.
So, we are temporarily off the road - but worse follows: Auto Windscreens cannot source replacement glass, it appears to be a dealer part only and will take 4 to 5 days to get it. Worse still, due to the cost of £600 the insurers are considering writing the vehicle off.
We are trying to find secondhand glass, but for an 18 year old vehicle this is less than straightforward - buying a used unicorn appears comparatively simple.
The only way out of this awful predicament is to pay for the glass, cutting out the insurers - and this is the point: we can't afford it. We need help and as quickly as possible, to get us back on the road. Please help us, every quid counts at the moment.
