Singapore is famous for being a multicultural Asian city-state. But few people realise that it's got a Black history, with members of the African diaspora living here from the early 19th century.
We're researching and creating a performance lecture to be staged in January 2019, exploring Singapore's forgotten connections with Africa and the Black diaspora. We'll highlight the history of trade, the violence of colonialism and slavery, as well as the cultural influence of the Black community.
We're currently raising funds for marketing, research, rentals, tech and director fees.
If we raise the full amount of $2,500, we'll set up a website sharing our research, so that more people can learn about the black histories of our island.
