Background:

Every single day, you, me, and almost everyone else living in developed economies spend nearly 96% of our time surrounded by architecture - our homes, workplaces, public spaces, even the streets we walk on. Our lives are intrinsically intertwined with the built environment, but have we ever stopped to wonder what effect these constant exposures might have on us? Not just physically, but neurologically as well?

Recent research has begun to unravel a startling connection between our built environment and our health. Emerging studies in the field of neuroarchitecture suggest that exposure to certain architectural forms can influence physiological stress responses. This leads us to a key question: Could our buildings be making us sick?

Current evidence from neuroimmunology suggests a worrisome link between stress and neuroinflammation, a condition implicated in neurological disorders such as depression, dementia, and schizophrenia. As our built environment might be contributing to our stress levels, we need to urgently investigate the possible effects of architectural design on neuroinflammation.

The scope of this problem is far more significant than many realize. Neurodegenerative conditions were the fifth leading cause of death globally in 2021. In the United Kingdom, one in four hospital beds is currently occupied by someone over 65 living with dementia.

Our Goal:

We're launching a ground-breaking research project based at the University of Cambridge to explore the direct impact of visual exposure to selected architectural forms on neuroinflammatory responses. Our goal? To pioneer the field of architectural neuroimmunology and promote a healthier built environment for everyone. However, to make this a reality, we need to procure cutting-edge equipment and maintain operational efficiency throughout the study.

Despite the urgent need for this research, its innovative and interdisciplinary nature has made it challenging to secure funding through traditional avenues. That's where we need you. By turning to crowdfunding, we're inviting individuals and organizations everywhere to play a part in this critical research. After all, the built environment affects us all.

Your Support Matters:

Every pound you contribute to this research could bring us one step closer to a healthier, more sustainable built environment. This is your opportunity to help us create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but are also conscientiously designed to support mental and neurological health. Together, let's build a future where our surroundings enhance our wellness, not hinder it.

Join us in this mission. Donate today and let's create healthier spaces for all because our health and our future are worth it. The future of neuroarchitecture is in our hands - and with your help, we can make it a reality.
