Dr Evarest Maguo is a veterinarian working in Arusha, Tanzania. Whilst he runs his own practice, a lot of the care Evarest provides is for free, especially for those who cannot afford the treatment for their animals, or those that simply do not care. Evarest has some great initiatives that would benefit the welfare of many animals within Arusha, but needs some funds to get them up and running. Two initiatives which we are hoping to raise funds for are:
Kennel Repairing
- Repairing the kennels at the clinic which are currently not in a state to home animals. These kennels would be used to temporarily home stray animals, and animals that are recovering from surgery or illness.
Construction cost: 500,000 (US$215)
Includes demolishing old wooden structure, new fencing, plastering kennel walls, flooring, iron roofing, timber beams, drainage system for waste and easy cleaning. Blankets and food bowls.
Livestock Market
- Provision of water troughs and shelters for animals traded at the livestock market. These animals are very poorly treated at market, beaten with sticks and tied up in blistering heat without water or shade. There are often no ramps to transport the animals to and from vehicles resulting in them being thrown instead. No one takes any responsibility for these animals (primarily cows, goats, donkeys, chickens) and so simple provisions of water, shade and ramps would make a huge difference at these markets. There are 6 livestock markets within Arusha, and eventually the aim would be to build troughs and shelters at all.
Cost: 120,000 (US$50) per trough, 500,000 (US$215) per shelter, 400,000 (US$175) per ramp
Please help us in raising the money to start these two projects, even a small amount goes a long way in Tanzania.
A huge thanks from Dr Evarest Maguo and the volunteer team working with him.
