Andre’s Breath of Life

I am Michelle, a known and trusted team fundraiser since 2018 and this fundraiser is on behalf of Mr & Mrs Williams, one of the nicest couple anybody could encounter.

"As much as it may seem like Andre is the unluckiest Toddler at the moment, He is an adorable kid and such a gentle soul to be around. His presence is always felt around the room with his charming smile.

On Tuesday the 18th of January 2022, Andre had to undergo open-heart surgery to repair a congenital heart defect called "Atrioventricular Septal Defect"(AVSD). A heart defect in which there are holes between the chambers of the right and left sides of the heart and the valves that control the flow of blood between these chambers may not be formed correctly. As the fighter that he is, even though this defect was noticed before his birth, he had to fight his way to 14 months old before needing heart surgery. a surgery that has unfortunately brought about a life-threatening complication.

About 40 hours after Andre's surgery, doctors noticed the onset of Hypoxemia which basically means the oxygen level in his blood had dropped below the normal level. An examination will go on to diagnose Andre with Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a life-threatening lung condition that allows fluid to leak into the lungs. Oxegen is unable to get into the body and breathing becomes extremely difficult. His lungs are failing and he will need to be on mechanical ventilation indefinitely. (hopefully, until his lung function gets back to normal)

Henry & Mandy (Andre's parents) are not the type to ask for handouts even though they will usually go out of their way to help other people in need. Times haven't been easy on them as Mandy has had to quit her job to give more attention to her fighting son even though medical bills continue to accumulate. In these times of uncertainty and financial pressure, they will need all the help they can get to get through this. The journey ahead is a tough one but with the help of kind people like you, they can make it through. Funds will be used towards Andre's medical expenses.
