I Need Help to Share Effective
Stroke Survival Strategies
On October 18, 2012, I suffered a massive stroke. But by the grace of Almighty, I am alive and well today. A book I have written over the past year tells the story of my recovery, considered miraculous by many in the medical profession.
For close to eight months, I could not speak at all. Then, thanks to the encouragement of my speech therapist, I was able to say my first words: Dev (my son’s name) and Amma (what I call my mother). My recovery has convinced me that each of us is capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for. We need patience, perseverance and a will to survive.
My dream now is to give hope to those with similar challenges in their journeys. It is my desire to send a message out to everyone, especially stroke survivors, never to give up. We may not return to where we were, but we can do a lot if only we look at life with a positive attitude.
My book, titled An Incredible Journey from Stroke to Recovery, is ready, and I am looking for a publisher.
Some people say stroke survivors can't improve beyond a point. In my case, even two years after the incident, I notice improvements in strength, balance and speech. I am proof positive that there's hope.
Two stroke-related websites are run in India, mostly by doctors, but none by a stroke victim. That is the reason I started strokeindia.org.
The website collects stories that bind stroke victims. They talk about medical approaches, remedies and rehabilitation.
Facts about stroke:
1. One in every 500 people faces a brain stroke.
2. About 12 per cent of those affected are below 40 years
3. Half of all strokes occur due to diabetes, high BP and high cholesterol.
I now feel crowdfunding is the only way to the word out through my book and website.
