Hi, I'm Amy. I'm from South Africa and I'm in high school. We were recently visited by the company- Worldchallengers, and they're offering us an opportunity to go on a life-changing trip to Nepal.
The trip is comprised of three stages, with the first being a very challenging hike on the base of the Himalaya mountain range. We will encounter problems we need to solve as a group and also get to know ourselves and our peers in a way that will change us all forever. We will learn valuable lessons and all in all grow as people.
The second stage is the community project. We give back to the native people of Nepal by building houses, painting schools, or even giving monetary donations. We will learn to appreciate all the things that we have in life, and just how lucky we really are.
The last stage is the rest and relaxation stage, where we will learn about the Nepali traditions and cultures. As a group we will be tightly knit after all that we've been through together and we will get to meet all new people and make memories that will last a lifetime!
This trip will be very challenging and I think we will struggle along the way but the benefits we will reap as new, changed young people will be astounding. We are given responsibilities and learn valuable skills such as budgeting and thinking under pressure. I believe the experience will benefit the people of Nepal and help our generation to learn the value of appreciation, which we can spread when we return home.
The fund-raising is a constant process and we need to just keep going, and we need your help!
