Amber’s Story

Dear friends,

I am reaching out to you with a special request today. I was working as a lawyer helping refugees in Thailand in a small NGO where I met Amber. She is a refugee living with her two children in Bangkok in near destitution. She is a hard-working single mother who makes ends meet by working informally as an interpreter for an NGO to help fellow refugees.

In Thailand, refugees are treated as illegal migrants and, as a result, they are at constant risk of detention and deportation and are unable to work or attend school and rely on charity funds.

Today, I am raising funds as a good friend for Amber and would like to ask for your help. She is suffering from serious medical conditions and her son needed urgent medical help that cost her more than she expected. This month, she has to decide whether she will pay rent or provide food for her children.

MY STORY ( AMBER S.)

I am Amber S. (47), Pakistani refugee fled from religious persecution. I have spent six years in Bangkok with my son (14) and daughter (9). It is illegal to stay and work as a refugee in Thailand and we live in a constant fear of detention and deportation. We cannot return home.

In Pakistan, I had been a teacher for 16 years. I also worked for an NGO for 10 years in Interpretation and Report Writing. I earned in a very respectful way.

In Bangkok, I live in a small room with my children. I am patient of Diabetes, Migraine and Thyroid. I suffer from severe neck pain and spinal problem due to a paralysis. Sometimes I cannot even walk and have to rely on my children's help. I cannot afford therapy.

Two weeks ago my son sprained his ankle and tore his Ligament. He has to wear cast on his leg, gets fever, still have pain and swelling on the joint.

I am in miserable situation....for food, room rent, medication, blood tests. I cannot give proper food and diet to my kids...It is Heart Rending for me.......My kids are not going to proper school. I can not afford. I do not have a visa, otherwise, I could have earned in a respectful way. I have already borrowed money. I have to return that too....I am really too much upset....
