Seven years ago I called for help to raise funds to buy an old second hand boat. We purchased a 1997 Novurania RIB. 'Amberjack' has been busy over the years, crucial in dealing with the plastic pellet spill, 'Hope' the wounded dolphin as well as recovering stranded dolphins and porpoises and helping monitor the local populations. She has been 'fishing for trash' and investigating marine debris spills and oil spills along HK's coastline. This year Amberjack has been hauling abandoned ghost fishing nets and running out twice a month to the Soko Islands where we are conducting plastic surveys. In the past 3 months we launched out Illegal Fishing campaign and Amberjack has been in action documenting the illegal fishing activities of Mainland fishing vessels poaching in HK waters as well as direct action, engaging and chasing these vessels out of Hong Kong.
However all of this action has taken a toll on the already aged boat. Last week we had an incident on the way to the Soko's when the port-side tube blew completely and whilst we have been patching up over the years, this damage looks like it might be fatal.
Therefore I am calling on your generosity again to help me raise funds for either a major repair or a replacement boat. If we replace we will save as much as we can from Amberjack, including the Suzuki 4-stroke 90hp engine, so this should keep costs down in a huge way. We are actively looking at replacement boats before we start ploughing good money after bad into a repair job so that we can give the best 'bang for your buck'.
Thank you in advance,

New Boat Found & SecuredUpdate posted by Gary Stokes at 02:06 am
As mentioned we have been searching for a replacement boat for AmberJack and can now confirm that we have found and secured a holding deposit on a new (secondhand) boat. Our fundraiser has also had an incredible boost from an offline donor of HK$25,000 taking us up to HK$44,000 out
Update : Search For Replacement BoatUpdate posted by Gary Stokes at 11:50 am
Looking closer at the damage sustained we are most likely going to opt for a new (albeit secondhand) boat. We have been searching these past few days and think we have found a boat that is almost identical to Amberjack, a 5.2m Rigid Inflatable Boat. We are negotiating a price
