Amatola Haven opened its doors in 1989 as a Non-Profit Organisation. We offer accommodation for the aged, frail and assist the members of the community who need assistance after major operations. Many terminally ill patients have been nursed here over the year.
Presently we have 31 residents, some of which are mentally handicapped. Two of the residents do not have any family at all and depend entirely on us for survival. In the past we used to get assistance from the Government to sustain our residents, many of which only receive a small government pension which isn't enough to pay for accommodation in our Home. Due to the present economic conditions, we are no longer able to continue to run this home effectively. It is very sad indeed that we can no longer afford to accommodate these people. If we do not receive assistance, we will have no alternative to close down our frail care unit. We are desperate to keep the Home open and care for these people, we owe it to them that they be taken care of now in their old age.
We urgently appeal to anyone who can assist us financially, as we would like to keep our residents here at our Home, the only home that they now know. They are not in a position to fend for themselves and depend on us for all their needs.
It would be a great loss to the community that after so many years we close our doors and deny these people the dignity that they deserve.
We pray that this project touches your heart as it does ours.
We thank you in advance.
