Hey, guys! My name is Alicia Taylor, I graduated this year from Canfield High School and I have some pretty big goals for the future. I am enrolled at Purdue University starting this Fall 2015 to achieve my Bachelors of Science in Pre Medicine as a first in the family to go to college.

I decided from a young age that I was going to go to college. I see it as an opportunity to not only better myself, but to better my family and bring them forward. I am trying to become a person that my younger cousins, nieces, and nephews can look up to as proof any of us can go to college. Another reason it is important to me is as a way to honour my grandma.

My junior year of high school, my grandma had a major stroke, leaving her with some pretty severe symptoms. Her condition after that was a pretty uphill battle. She would get better for a while and then slide right back to where she was before or even worse. Most of her symptoms weren't very treatable either. Even with intense therapy and a couple month stay at a rehabilitation hospital, she wasn't getting much better. Later, she had a subdural hematoma which led to 2 different brain surgeries resulting in some pretty severe trauma. My Grandma never really recovered after that. Although she passed away, I believe I can honour her by going to college and becoming a Neurologist or Neurosurgeon.

And honestly, I feel that I've done my best to work toward that goal, too. I dedicated myself to many extracurricular activities. Much of my sophomore, junior, and senior years were spend in our robotics room working on our year's robot for Team 4601 in the FIRST Robotics Competition. I dedicated somehow more time from my junior and senior years on Journalism as the editor of The Show, our school's biweekly news show. I was active in the Science Club, too achieving superior ratings at both the Lake to River Science fair and Ohio State Science Day.

I took 10 Science courses, 5 Math courses, 7 English courses, and 4 Social Studies courses 3 of my courses were AP. Throughout my high school career I never had a single study hall, early release, or late arrival block.

Despite these qualifications, I haven't received much financial help and tuition is pretty high. I'm going to have to take out loans to the effect of $40,000. This isn't including the things I will need to buy for my dorm, the supplies I will need for my classes (including a laptop), or books. I could really use your help to become a doctor, every dollar counts!
