I am finally taking the volunteer trip of my dreams and going to....Cusco, Peru! This kind of experience is something I have been wanting to do for a while but have been hesitant about because of the cost; However turning 30 soon has gotten me thinking about the bigger things in life and I decided to take the leap. I'll be leaving this September for three months and while I am there I will working on various projects such as Construction and Child Care. These projects will help to improve the lives of the children and the community in Peru, revitalizing their town and providing affection and education to children who may otherwise may not receive it.
About the Program
I chose a program from a New Zealand-based company called IVHQ specifically because of its approach to volunteerism. They hire LOCAL program directors versus bringing in foreigners to lead the volunteers to ensure the work is focused on what the community needs most. They partner with existing local organizations so that volunteers can make their few months abroad have the biggest impact. Many times these local organizations are underfunded and understaffed, so I feel really good knowing I’ll make a difference.
While I am so excited to take a step back from the daily grind and dedicate a few months helping others, unfortunately this amazing opportunity does come with a price tag. Though I am already starting to saving up, I thought I would reach out and ask for some help in making this trip a possibility. There is no pressure AT ALL to donate, but if you are feeling generous I would be so grateful for the help in easing the financial aspect of the program.
For those who are in Chicago sadly this means I will be moving away at the end of July but feel free to come visit me in New York upon my return in December (or if we are getting crazy here, you can come visit me in Peru!)
Thanks everyone and to those who already know about this trip, thank you for your support!!
