My friend Clara and I are from Lyon and in October 2019, we decided to volunteer in Kenya. We chose Kenya because we wanted to see how life was in other country. That's how we arrived at Samwel's house who is a SEC school Director in Rusinga island. Samwel created the school 7 years ago to support the needy children from poor backgrounds. The children cannot aford the school necessities in other schools (uniforms, food, books and education). The SEC school targets to support more than five hundred children by year 2020 but for now,the school has a challenge which is to build an office and Library in order to protect the books and also to work as a Learning center.
Currently the SEC school is a learning center to children from the poor village in Rusinga Island: Rusinga, of volcanic origin, is an island of Lake Victoria located east of the island of Mfangano in the county of Homa Bay in Kenya known for its prehistoric discoveries of early importance. The people around here are fishermen who lives below 5 euros a day. Quite a number of children doesn't have acess to education. That's why SEC School is such a big breakthrough to a lot of children.
The SEC has started building the office and Library and the work is yet to be completed. The school needs more iron sheets for the roof, cement for the walls and to pay the builder and others. The breakdow of the budget is as follows :
- cement 150 bags - 1 000€
- sand - 600€
- iron sheet - 800€
- windows and doors - 800€
- timber - 800€
- glasses - 400€
- contractor - 600€
We want to appeal for your donation to help support this small school which has been a home for many children.
