African Dawn is a registered NPO (2015/055934/08) dedicated to rescuing orphaned, injured and sick birds and wildlife in South Africa, and providing them with a safe haven to live out their lives to their full potential. We receive no external funding and rely heavily on international volunteers that come and help out with the everyday park operations and help fund our running costs, as well as donations from the public.

Due to the current global Corona crisis, the majority of our international volunteers have been sent home due to border restrictions, leaving us with zero income. The remaining staff have the task of keeping the park running and taking care/feeding of the animals. As we are a sanctuary, closing cannot be an option as we have a duty of care to our birds and animals. In these circumstances we are doing everything we can to keep our animals fed and well, but in order to maintain this without funding from volunteers, we are asking for any donations that can help us keep operating. If you can help us we will be so grateful! All proceeds will make a massive difference by enabling us to continue to feed and care for all our animals and keep the park running. Our current needs include millies (corn), seed, fresh fruit, antelope pellets, cat pellets, lucerne etc. We are currently sourcing companies who will assist with supplying these items at a lower cost, therefore your donations will make a big difference.

If you can supply any of the above mentioned items, you are welcome to drop them off at African Dawn or alternatively, we can arrange a collection/drop-off point locally for the owner to collect.

Thank you for your generosity during these difficult times.

  • Recently I dropped off a small baby mouse bird at the sanctuary that I found in my backyard. After some trees was cut. I was not equiped to look after it. They were more than willing to take the bird in and look after it. Thank you very much African Dawn.

  • Your doing such a great job for the animals - I’m glad that I had the opportunity to support you as a volunteer some years ago. I hope you are able to withstand the crisis now. Keep going! All the best for you!

  • I volunteered in African Dawn back on 2012. It was the best experience of my life and The memories I carry of that time are truly priceless. I wish I could give back more to this special place, but every help counts!
