"A true story, a fantasy, an al legory. For all the people, animals, insects and landscapes whose bodies are on the line, voluntarily and involuntarily, through climate activism, climate displacement, climate disaster, climate illness; for those who leverage the safety and privilege of their bodies to stand in for those who cannot stand out or speak up due to risk of harm or persecution; for those who, through their small everyday actions, carry on the messages of those of us injured, disappeared, imprisoned, so that change will come." - Hanna Cormick.

Climate change is the most pressing challenge faced by our generation. It is an emergency and we must treat it as such. Hanna Cormick's play 'Canary' forces the urgent reality out into the open. As young theatre-makers, we want to use our art to communicate the human cost of inaction.

The exchange of ideas and people is key to solving this crisis. We are travelling to Slovenia, as part of Climate Change Theatre Action 2019, to continue our long term collaboration with the Slovenian theatre company KUD Pozitiv. We will perform our production of 'Canary' at Dijaski Dom Ivana Cankarja (DIC) at their Kreatorij theatre space and at the United World College of the Adriatic, Duino, Italy.

We will also be working with KUD Pozitiv on theatre workshops throughout the week, using theatre to tackle youth identity and the broader challenges we face. These workshops will result in a collaborative theatre piece.

Why the fundraiser? Thus far we have been able to cover our transportation costs for Mostar - Ljubljana and Ljubljana - Mostar, and food. We still need the remaining funds to cover the sleeping costs for the 10 members of the group for the duration of 11.10. - 18.10.2019.

This is a very important project for students involved with theatre at the United World College in Mostar because it provides a space for art to connect students across the Balkans and a call for action against the climate and ecological emergency.

If you have any additional questions or would like to know more about this project please contact our student leader Joseph Knight at [email protected] or our mentor [email protected]

Thank you all in advance!
