Well, I swore i would never do this but I am at a loss of how to come up with the rest of the funds to repair my home. I am in the process of rebuilding my credit so I was unable to get a loan or a credit card to help with the situation. Since I have only owned the house for one year now, I do not have enough equity for a home equity loan either. Believe me I have tried everything! There is only so much stuff I can sell on eBay. Lol!
I knew that I would be needing a new roof in the near future so had been saving in hopes to have it done in the springtime. Little did I know that my entire savings would go to repairing the whole back wall of the house that was about to fall off. About 25 years of water damage and rot was hidden under some suspicious vinyl siding. Sometime in the late 60's or so, they had built an addition onto this house. They obviously had no permits back then! The way that the back corner of the house was configured had water flowing up, down and into the wall from at least 4 different directions. Everything was rotted upstairs and down. The back deck had to be removed, the siding ripped off, then all of the odd 1950's sheathing removed, the insulation trashed, studs replaced and the electrical was fried. The outside is almost sealed back up but the person working in it has not showed up in over 3 weeks to finish and has left a big opening on the side of my house. And that's just the outside. I was making some progress on the inside. The moldy dryall was ripped out and the electrical has been replaced. Just as I am ready to put it all back together, water started leaking from the roof down the new walls. The roof is so rotted at this point that it needs to be torn off and replaced. Many of the studs holding the roof up at the back of the house are rotted away. So, I really need to get a roof put on ASAP and then some siding too over the newly repaired walls.
I have had at least 10 roofing companies come out to give me estimates. Most of them spoke to me like I was a dumb woman that didn't know anything and tried to rip me off. I am quite handy and do understand how to repair things but I can't do everything myself! I had some excellent reccomendations to a roofer and he even gave me the best price. He was super nice and seemed very skilled with both the siding and roofing. His estimate was half of what everyone else was asking and he was including tearing off the old roof and replacing all of the rotted wood. These other morons were just gonna go right over it. I'm like "ummmm, do you not see the giant rotted hole 2 feet in front of your face?!".
I have just spent thousands of dollars to make a wall look exaclty like a wall again. Not very rewarding! Those of you that are close to me know that I am pretty generous and giving and don't ask for anything in return. Also if you know me, you know that I am not one to ask for help so this is not easy for me. I pretty much like to take care of my own stuff but right now I am feeling a bit lost. Any few bucks you could spare would be super helpful and greatly appreciated. Hopefully one day when my house is not a giant disaster I can repay you one way or another. Maybe in Maztoh Ball soup? I would like to send my biggest Thank You's in advance to everyone that may help! -Shawn
