Eye surgery and maintenance for my sister

At this point, I am already thanking you for reading through. This means a lot to us.

My name is Seth and I am the youngest among three siblings. As you have seen in the title, my eldest sister requires any assistance with her medical condition.

My sister has diabetes which she inherited from the family lineage. My mother is a diabetic, and so was my grandmother. Just like other young people, she wasn't able to identify the symptoms at a young age. Everything was normal until one day she noticed that her left eye is failing. She saw blots and lines in her vision and started to get worried. We went to specialists for consultation and said her left eye needed a Pars Plana Vitrectomy.

It was not a cheap procedure. Since we came from a challenged family and we are orphaned at a young age, me and my siblings raised the amount for her surgery. Loans and arrangements were made just to pull it off.

The day came for her surgery we say it was a successful surgery. Nothing serious happened during the procedure. We hoped for the best results until we learned months later that that was not the case. Months after the surgery, my sister's eye did not improve. She still can't see clearly. The worse thing was that it's blurrier than before. She went back to the eye specialist for more consultations and medications.

After more than a year of religiously following prescriptions and medications, she lost her left eye. It can't totally see anymore.

We did everything we can with our meager resources to save her vision. We failed. My eldest sister mustered all the strength to continue with her life just with one functioning eye. She went back to work and tried to live a normal life. But it didn't end there.

Now we are again challenged with another situation, her right eye is starting to fail. The only eye she have left started to fail. Because of this, she can't perform usual tasks anymore and it pains us to see her try and struggle every time. It came now to a point that we needed to see an eye specialist in the capital city and it’s more expensive than what we had here in our city. The doctor strongly advised for another surgery, now on her right eye.

We are at the moment raising funds for the said surgery. She needs to have another Pars Plana Vitrectomy and Cataract Removal procedure. It is scheduled on July 5 at the Asia Pacific Eye Center, Laguna. I’m afraid we can’t afford the fees and expenses and at the same time, we can’t afford for my sister to go totally blind.

For those of you who will be helping us, I may not be able to pay you back monetarily but I am so sure that the universe will conspire to repay you a hundredfold. Generous hearts such as yours deserve all the good things this life, or the next has to offer. My heartfelt gratitude to all of you!
