"Abante kabataan, bumangon at lumaban!"
("Advance, youth! rise up and fight")

Youth broadly and boldly rise for national democracy and true liberation in the Philippines

A National Democratic Filipino Youth Conference in Canada

The broad and united Filipino youth movement of ANAKBAYAN, founded in 1998 in the Philippines and in 2015 in Canada, has built on the legacy of revolutionary youth movements to challenge these conditions. We arouse, organize and mobilize all youth toward our calls for national democracy in the Philippines, an end to displacement and poverty, and the rights, welfare and dignity of all people.

From November 19th to 21st, 2021 ANAKBAYAN chapters in Canada will host their second national youth congress in Toronto, ON.

This congress will tackle present-day issues that have a historical and material basis – enduring poverty and unemployment, hunger and landlessness, and graft and corruption that continue to push our kababayans to leave the motherland, their loved ones, and risk their lives in order to survive. The congress will highlight our ongoing campaigns: OustDuterte and Wakasan Na. We hope to re-ignite a youth worker's focus through our programming and strategizing and regenerate the class analysis and character of our organization.

PURPOSE

  • To gather students and young people to learn more about Philippine history, culture, and identity.
  • To engage participants in themed discussions, how they affect local realities and have them mobilize to an action
  • To provide a venue for young people to think of creative and effective ways to enhance the process of movement building with ANAKBAYAN
  • To empower the youth with the skills to be efficient organizers in their local neighbourhoods or any other local contexts.
  • To widen the projection of ANAKBAYAN and its work in the sector and the community it serves
