Six years ago, Ted and I "adopted" and began "sponsoring" Issahaku Abukari and his younger sister, Mariam Abukari from Ghana West Africa. They were orphans and in need of assistance meeting their living needs. They have become family. "Issy" is now 22 and has married another woman, also named Mariam. This Thursday morning, she gave birth to their son, Aaban Ted Issahaku! He is our "grandson". They are a Christian family.

Unfortunately, as I am currently unable to work (and Ted is disabled), I am no longer able to help with their support. Issy has had trouble finding work in Northern Ghana, although he tried hard. Mariam had some pregnancy complications due to malnutrition and required medication, but gratefully, has safely delivered the baby.

Next Thursday is the "Naming Ceremony" and apparently this is a really big deal in Ghana...a bit like a Christian Baptism in the US. It is shameful to the family if Issy is unable to cover the costs of a lamb, ceremonial clothing and a few other ceremonial items, plus a fee to the Tribe. This will cost about $500. I told him that he and Mariam should have considered that before creating a new life, but who listens to that when they are 22 and full or hormones. [sad smile] I am also hoping to raise a little extra so that mother and baby can have food, clothing and shelter for a few months.

Any amount will help! Bless you in advance for your help!
