A Promise for a Better Future

Hello and thank you for reading my story. I am a single mother of a 7 year old boy with ADHD and dyslexia. I am also a social worker who has worked with at risk adolescents for about 5 years. I have chosen to put my son into a private school because I have seen to many of the kids that I have worked with who also have ADHD get lost in our public school system and I did not want to see this happen to my son.

Tuition is expensive (around 4500 a year and that doesn't cover the after school program and additional 1560 a year) but my son gets positive attention from the staff and they are wonderful with him. He was diagnosed with dyslexia early which is a blessing. The only draw back to him being at a private school? They do not have a special education teacher or the support that he needs to get the help with his dyslexia. Which then means I have to pay a tutor another 100 dollars a week. My insurance plan has a high deductible of 2600 a year. His medications are 140 a month and counseling is 80 dollars a week until I meet my deductible. Did I mention I am a social worker? Love, love, love the work that I do but the pay in my field is no where close to what I need to provide private schooling tuition, after school care, tutor fees, medication costs, counseling costs for my son. And still be able to pay my own student loans off and pay all my bills. It would seem rather simple to just put him in a public school system but I cannot do that before I try every way I can to provide for him what I know he needs to be successful in life.
