Campaign Story
Hi, my name is Joe. My partner and I have welcomed into our home a young man left in a wheel chair after a car accident. He is unable to move from the chest down. He has been with us for five years and is doing very well with his rehab, now able to feed himself, use a t.v. remote and his cell phone. We must provide for all of his other needs, this is where we are having a problem.
My partner is a nurse and works 12 hour shifts, I work as a house painter and tile installer when he is off. At 57 and 50 we are no longer spring chickens, lifting Chris in and out of the wheel chair for hygine care is taking a toll on our backs. HERE IS THE PROBLEM our bath room is too small for his wheel chair and one of us to get him into our single stall shower. We must install an overhead lift and enlarge the bathrooom shower. Everthing looked so easy until our Home Owners Association did not approve our building plans. We must follow the rules and make the new work match the exterior of our house, fine with me except now I have to hire subs.
Thanks to many wounderfull organizations and groups in our area, a lot of the materials and the overhead lift nave been donated. We have about a third of the funds needed to get this project done. Chris has no family members that help with his care and we want him to stay with us as long as we are able to care for him. With this new lift and bathroom we will be able to offer a home to one more person with these needs. Thank you so very much JOE
