A Good Friend needs a Service Dog

Update posted by Chris Cummins On Jul 18, 2015

Zoey passed the first stage in her puppy training and is now a puppy STAR. STAR is an AKC evaluation similar to the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) evaluation that dogs over a year take. STAR is for puppies and dogs under one year and Zoey did great!

Thanks to all those who's donations have helped us get this far.

Chris, Tina and Zoey, STAR

Zoey has started her puppy kindergarten classes. We still have a very long way to go and need to fund the rest of her classes plus the evaluations and equipment needed. Thank you for your continuing help.

Hello everyone. Meet Zoey. She is an 11 week old English Cocker that we found for Tina as a service dog prospect. She is a sweet puppy that is eager to learn. She likes to please and she and Tina are bonding closely already. Please help me continue to raise money for Tina to have professional help in training her as the service dog Tina needs to live a fuller, happier life.

Thank you for all the help you have given so far and take care.

Chris

Hi,
It's Tina here. I wanted to once again thank Chris for all he is doing in raising the money to get this dog for me and pay a trainer to help me train this dog as a service animal. Also, thank you to other family members that have made donations. They are appreciated so much. Finally, thank you to the #SPNFamily. You all have pulled together to provide some donations, and retweet and favorite our posts on Twitter, in order to get the word out.
Some of you have been able to donate and that has helped so much as well. In particular, I would like to think Lauren Tom of Supernatural for her donation. Also, Travis Aaron Wade's organization T.R.U.T.4.H has been very generous, as well as a new friend I met because of T.R.U.T.4.H. Another friend I met through Jared Padalecki's #AlwaysKeepFighting has been so generous and so supportive. I will never have the words to thank any of these people for their help. Another Twitter friend has helped a lot, and there are a couple of new people that were very generous in donating that I have never met.
I know that not everyone can afford to donate and that's ok. We've had over 3600 visitors to the fundraiser and if even 1400 of those visitors could have donated just $3.00, the fundraiser would be finished and Chris could close it and could stop begging and bothering you.
I just want my life back after this severe bout with depression, anxiety, and agoraphobia, and this is a wonderful recommendation my therapist and doctor had. I feel like it's a last hope, so please, help us succeed.
Finally, remember to check out the jewelry you could receive as gifts for certain donation amounts. Check out Chris' facebook page: Dry Branch Arts for some examples of styles of jewelry available.

Thank you so much everyone.
Tina

My name is Tina. I have depression, anxiety disorder, and agoraphobia. At times the depression is so severe I can feel suicidal. My psychiatrist has made many adjustments and changes to my medications but they still aren't helping. Recently, my therapist suggested I get a service dog to help deal the worst of my symptoms.

Service dogs are not pets. They are dogs that are trained to do specific tasks to help a disabled person function more independently in everyday life. They can literally save the life of their partner. In my case, the dog would be trained to help recognize when I am having an anxiety attack and perform a task to help head it off or stop it before it gets too severe. My service dog would also be trained to wake me from the severe nightmares I have and perform tasks to help me relax and go back to sleep. If I were experiencing emotional overload the dog would be trained to help ground me and help me calm down. This service dog could even be trained to use a special phone to call a friend or family member or 911 if I became very sick or even felt suicidal. Finally, the dog would go places with me, helping me to feel safe and more independent because of the tasks it could do in helping to deal with my anxieties and agoraphobia.

This dog could help me have a life again. I want to be well, to go out, to visit my grandson and family, to volunteer at Church or somewhere, and to just live again. I really do want to find a way out of this dark cave of depression and live again, and having a service dog feels like the first chance I have had to do that in a long, long time.

Please, if you could find it in your heart to donate even a few dollars it would help greatly.

Thank you for reading this,

Tina
