Hello everyone, my name is Creg Panashe Mudege. I am a permanent resident of Zimbabwe, but I am studying medicine at the university of Debrecen - here's my story.

I walked into my first class of medical school 3 years ago, in 2016, and I couldn't have felt more at home. Becoming a doctor is all I have ever wanted, and for a short while, my dream was well within my reach. I excelled in class and I felt myself become more and more like the professionals I see on campus everyday. That was until recently, when I hit a snag.

My home country of Zimbabwe has been on a rocky course for as long as I can remember, but recently it has all taken a turn for the worse. The cost of living has dramatically increased, wages are still stagnant and people are barely getting by. As a student studying abroad, I feel the impact of this the most. Initially, my parents had saved up for my university tuition fees. However, due to the economic downturn their savings were devalued almost instantaneously, owing to the introduction of ‘RTGS dollars’, a currency only recognized within Zimbabwe and redundant in the eyes of the international community.

My university has been gracious enough up to this point to let me study, despite owing them nearly 9000 dollars in tuition fees, however I need to pay my tuition fees in order for me to be able to take my 3rd year final exams. These exams are prerequisites for my entry into the 4th year of my medical studies.

Most people would simply say, go back home and study there!

Well, this is easier said than done. There are little to no job prospects back home, the health care sector is terribly underfunded and is crippled by a lack of resources. With this in mind, it is painfully obvious that simply returning home halfway through my studies is not an easy choice to make.

I am expected to finish my medical degree in 2022 and if my situation is not resolved, then this is the end of the road for me.

To those of you who have been in a similar situation, please consider supporting my dream of graduating from medical school. All funds received will be used to pay for my tuition fees and copies of the transactions will be uploaded onto this campaign.
