A Fundraiser: Investing in Our Youth

Join me in supporting a youth organization in making a difference in young people’s lives.

Hello, my name is Lorena and I am raising money to support a great nonprofit that provides transformative support for teens across New York City.  

Here’s what our youth face:

For far too many kids, growing up in neighborhoods surrounded by gang boundaries and violence is like living life in a box.  Not only is their mobility limited because of gang borders, but so too is their ability to see possibilities for their lives beyond what the borders of their box allows them to see.  

Here’s what The Moriah Institute offers:

The Rites of Passage program of The Moriah Institute, Inc. is a nonprofit that works to provide teens with long-term caring mentors, transformative learning experiences, independent living skills, and a very different message that says that they matter!  Youth are given a new sense of hope through engaging in discussions, outdoor challenges, cultural activities, college trips and other educational excursions that provide them with an expansive vision of their lives and helps them to see other possibilities for their present and future.    

The Moriah Institute works to reverse the effects of the devaluing messages that young people receive growing up in underserved communities where more is spent on incarceration than on education, and it does so by showing them their potential and highest possibilities!  Through intensive adult and peer-to-peer mentoring, youth have had their lives turned around in profound ways.  

Here’s what Priscilla shared about her college trip experience:

“I didn’t think college was for me, or that I was meant for college.  But now I am in my second year and I am doing good and loving it.   On the Rites of Passage college trip I was able to talk to some students about their experience and that helped me to think ‘maybe I can do that too.’  If enough people tell you you’re great you start to believe it, and I believe because of my Rites mentors.”  

And here’s how you can help:

Your gift of $300 will send one teen to Rites of Passage’s Weekend Intensive;

Your gift of $250 will allow one teen to attend the Annual College Trip;

Your gift of $100 will allow one teen to participate in a physically challenging (i.e. rock climbing) or life saving (i.e., CPR) experience;

Your gift of $50 will assist one teen in participating in a one-day intensive workshop at an educational center;  

Any donation you can make is deeply appreciated, and will greatly assist The Moriah Institute in transforming young people’s lives.
