A Dangerous Figure

A Dangerous Figure is a Facebook app, an installation at Somerset House, a Graphic Novel, and set of urban interventions. Young unemployed people living in the UK enter their details into an online form and upload an image of their face. These faces and vital statistics are merged to form the archetypal unemployed young person, and will result in a sculptural installation in Somerset House.

 Currently there are over a million unemployed 16-24 year olds in the UK, the largest quantity in UK history, this project is a platform of expression for them. Thousands have already logged on and joined the project. The journey begins much like a job application, but instead of facing the participant with rejection or silence it becomes a tool for representation, and transforms into a powerful ambassador for the cause of youth unemployment. 

A Dangerous Figure will provide the social impact greatly needed to improve the prospects for 16-25 year olds.

Awareness of this issue and making it accessible through a different medium, we want businesses, MPs, young people and the social sector to discuss and evaluate the problem through the visual aid of art.

We want to create a bridge that connects the right organisations with the people who need it most. This will allow for more long term solutions to combat youth unemployment to be developed.

we has already teamed up with a number of social enterprises who have been providing innovative, accessible, and effective solutions to combat youth unemployment. We hope that through this tour we can attract more organisations dedicated to helping young people and work together to form solutions.

We want to initiate conversation between people and the unemployed youth to break the steryotypes and to better understand the difficulties they face. Ultimately we want to provide answers and justice not only to disoriented young people, but to parents whose years of sacrifice have lead to one million young people in the UK leading jobless lives.

We are raising money to keep this installation traveling and keep awareness flowing through young people and businesses alike. By helping us fund events we keep registering people to vote, educate people in thier place in our government and society, as well as getting young people in touch with the services they need.
