Can we help someone take the first steps towards their second life? Let’s help someone who wants to be helped. The cost of addiction rehabilitation programs (in-patient or outpatient ) aren’t as accessible and glamorous as some would assume. In addition to insurance limitations and open bed availability…sometimes achieving the type of care that a person could really benefit from seems impossible. And the reason someone ended up at a destination doesn’t matter in the same way asking someone who is wounded in an ER how it happened doesn’t matter. Just that they’d like some help healing and getting back home.
Let’s raise each other up by raising funds to support someone’s life. If #BettyWhite can raise funds for animals from beyond the grave, surely we can do the same for less hairy mammals. Our people! 🤪Supporting actual humans is more my jam.
So what are we doing?! I want to raise money to help fund someone’s journey to rehab. (Ex: drug / mental health)
How will I do this? Via one of the most infectious, popular ways, which happens to be a vehicle I am passionate about. Running. I am training for 3 race events this year and will call my mission #RunForYourLife .
I am training for a 10k (@shamrockshuffle) my first sprint triathlon ( @napervillesprinttri ) and a marathon (#FoxValleyMarathon) , which I haven’t completed in over 10 years. But I always told myself the next marathon I run, I’ll train properly and raise money for this purpose, which has been on my heart for a long time. Now that I am registered for these personal goals, it’s time to launch the other.
🤘Statistically, addiction has effected every person reading this. You, yourself. Or perhaps by knowing a friend, neighbor, coworker, that homeless person people judge or maybe by having loved someone who lived through the trials of addiction.
Running has been one of my most effective therapies. I call it, #MeditationInMotion . There have been times I used the thought of people I have loved who were struggling with addiction as motivation to get through some tough life races. Figuratively and literally. Because love conquers all. If Someone told me to get to a finish line and I could save another person, I’m sure I’d dig deep and find that super human strength to go on even when I thought my legs would give out. But our mindsets have far more endurance than our legs. Still, we remember to take care of ourselves regardless and running is one of many ways I have found balance in my physical and mental health. #RunnersHigh #ThereCanBeTooMuchOfAGoodThing
Training for these races and raising these funds won’t even compare in terms of the physical, psychological and spiritual endurance that recovery will no doubt challenge someone on that path with. So if you can get clean, I know I can do this. I just want to support you. (By walking/alongside you)
“Angie, you could just raise funds for a pre-existing charity. Why do it this way?”
We aren’t reinventing the wheel. Just looking for a more personal feel. What I’m saying is if someone watching this wants to reach out in terms of kickstarting they’re own recovery, I am doing it with you in my own way by raising funds for these events. #OneDayAtATime and One foot in front of the other. You’ve got another cheerleader on your team.
Also, if you feel so inspired to reduce or quit any habit in your life you feel is affecting quality of it, feel free to “run along side me”, by training for these events, one of your own or simply telling me your goal so I can cheer you on. I’m also down for being your personal race horse. “Angie, I’ll quit smoking if you run that distance in this time”,
or
“Angie! For every mile you run, I’ll add a day of doing something for my health”, etc. BET!
Hey, Maybe you simply try a #couchto5k ! Ok! #BringTheBodyAndTheMindWillFollow
*See the rewards section for challenge options* OR! pitch me an idea!
What if no one personally asks for this assistance? No problemo ! The funds will go directly to a local rehabilitation facility of my choosing. Example : @AlexianBrothers or Rosencrance. I’d be happy to keep everyone posted on this process and show proof of final deposit by the end of the @foxvalleymarathon I am training for. September #2022
I will generate a proper fundraising page/ link and either way…whatever is raised in these next 6 months will be deposited directly to a facility. Whether that is in a particular person’s name or for a general fund for the future…someone’s life will be effected and by domino effect interpersonally, socially and generationally, we all win.
Ready? Set?! LET’s GOOOOOOOOOOO!!! 👏👏👏

Update posted by Angelina Uhren McNeela at 08:44 pmThe hardest part of training isn’t necessarily the physical aspect of it. It’s often what comes up mentally when we’re doing the work. I’d choose multiple marathons…maybe even an ultra marathon, unmedicated childbirth again over the ‘pain’ of healing from trauma. But then again, who am I kidding…when you See. . . . .

Whether we see it or not at the time there’s always unforeseen light at the end of whatever tunnel-vision sh*t storm of depression, anxiety, abuse, addiction, trauma or life shift one is moving through.
